Serengeti Highway Campaign

As many of you might already know (but this is more for those who don't) the government of Tanzania is planning to build a major commercial highway across the Serengeti National Park.

"Scientists sincerely believe that the road will have disastrous effects on the entire ecosystem. The north parts of the Serengeti and Masai Mara are critical for the wildebeest and zebra migration and is the only permanent year-round water source for these herds. Calculations show that if wildebeest were cut off from these critical areas, the population would likely decline from 1.3 million animals to about 200,000.
This is not a track or a road — it’s a high speed highway for trucks that could eventually reach hundreds a day. Traffic will inevitably grow more and more frequent, invasive, and damaging as time goes on."

Here's how I think this will turn out, but of course with a cuter, less distressing twist.
The link below contains maps, ecological data and a petition for anyone interested in taking part There's also a Facebook group linked in for those wanting to be kept updated that way.

Submitting to 'Illustration Friday' for the theme 'warning' as I feel it's very appropriate for animal-lovers!
